Q&A with Fox
Raised in Cary, NC, Olivia “Liv” Hummel is a member of the Temple Owls volleyball team. Hummel offered insights into her experiences as a student-athlete at Temple, including her journey to studying accounting at the Fox School, how she’s made the most of on-campus resources and her pursuits in creating meaningful professional connections.

What does it mean to you to be a student-athlete at the Fox School of Business?
I am very blessed and lucky to have the opportunity to be a student-athlete at the Fox School. I knew coming into college that I wanted to be a part of a variety of communities, so I am glad to be in an environment with my team and also with my fellow business classmates.
What was your decision process like when choosing to attend Fox?
I knew when picking a school that I wanted to study business. When I first learned about Fox, I saw it carried such prestige and emphasis on the area of business study that it easily became my top choice. I saw that this environment and community could offer many resources to me and opportunities for my future, too.
How has the Fox School supported your pursuits as a student-athlete?
While a busy lifestyle, Fox definitely supports us as student-athletes and, in many ways, being a student-athlete really helped me get started as a college student. The school provides so many resources for us like academic advisors, tutors and required study hall hours—it really helped me get acclimated and ensured that I was staying on top of my work.

How will your student-athlete experience benefit you beyond your time at Temple?
I’ve been fortunate enough to already have met a lot of business professionals and people who work within my goal industry of accounting that have mentioned how much they love hiring former student athletes. Hearing things like that makes me confident in my decisions as a student-athlete! I’ve also made a lot of connections with fellow Owls—along with student-athletes at other universities. I look forward to utilizing those connections one day in the future!
What would you say to a prospective student-athlete who is considering coming to Temple?
Temple is such a great place to gain an education but also grow within the community around you. Especially within the business school, the community here allows you, especially as a student-athlete, to thrive to your fullest potential. Whether it be the supportive faculty or strong alumni base, it’s so evident that everyone here wants to be here.
What academic and athletic goals do you have for this year?
This year, academically, I am aiming for a 4.0 GPA. I got a 4.0 GPA last semester, but my classes are a bit harder now…I am still determined though!

Each academic year, a select group of students from Temple University’s Fox School of Business represents the school in a place beyond the classroom: NCAA collegiate athletics.
Participating across a variety of Temple Athletics programs, the Fox School is proud to be the academic home for many student-athletes.
