Up close: Student organization leader and cultural explorer

Since her first year at the Fox School of Business, Anjali Popli, Class of 2024, immersed herself in Temple’s student life and cultural communities. Now entering her senior year, she reflects back on how these experiences impacted her personal and professional growth.

As incoming president of Temple’s chapter of the American Marketing Association (TU-AMA), how has this organization had impact on your college experience?

With a passion for marketing, I have been involved in TU-AMA since my freshman year. I worked as a student consultant on various Cherry Consulting projects, our in-house marketing firm. This experience helped me gain immense marketing knowledge.

In my sophomore year, I became the director of chapter operations. I enjoyed the flexibility this role provided. It allowed me to assist other TU-AMA committees with tasks like speaker session outreach and conference planning.

As president this coming year, I am looking forward to giving back to an organization that has done so much for me. I want to help our members enhance their skill sets and marketing knowledge and to have TU-AMA be the stepping stone to advance their professional careers.

This summer you will be interning with L’Oréal. Can you explain how this opportunity came about?

I received this internship opportunity at L’Oréal because I was selected to be part of its Diverse Future Leaders Fellowship during my sophomore year. I was one of 60 applicants in a pool of 300 to be chosen to take part in this nine-month program. I learned a lot about corporate marketing and gained many professional skills. This fellowship opened the door for me to apply for internship positions within the company. This summer, I am an omni shopper e-commerce marketing intern for Maybelline, part of the L’Oréal Group.

What gets you excited about your Temple experience?

As a first-generation Indian-American in the United States, I have always gravitated toward diverse people, ideas and lifestyles. This is why I love Temple—because of its rich cultural community.

In spring 2023, I wanted to expand my international experience further by studying abroad at Temple Rome. I embraced a completely new culture, language and lifestyle. Being in Europe also allowed me to travel to other countries including Greece, Hungary, England and Belgium. This entire experience provided me with an even greater perspective, understanding and appreciation for world cultures and community.
