Q&A with Fox
We checked in with Andrew McIlquham, class of 2024, a member of the Temple Owls football team. A long snapper for the Owls, the Connecticut native discussed his experience at Fox, his outlook for beyond graduation and of course, football.

Favorite student-athlete memory: “Playing as a freshman in my first collegiate game against Duke University. The game was on ESPN…I had always dreamed of playing on that big of a stage…it was just so surreal!”
What does it mean to you to be a student-athlete at the Fox School of Business?
Being a student-athlete here at Fox means everything to me. It was a bit of a culture shock for me to arrive in Philadelphia after beginning my collegiate athletic career in Texas, but I had a lot of resources available to help me get acclimated. Having the opportunity to play football at the highest-level while being recognized for my academic achievements at a business school is very rewarding. I am very proud to represent Fox on the field!
What was your decision process like when choosing to attend Fox?
I always knew that I wanted to enter the business profession and Temple offered me that opportunity while also pursuing my goal of playing football at a very high level. Once I realized I had the chance to become a scholar athlete here, it was a perfect fit.
How has the Fox School supported your pursuits as a student-athlete?
The overall academic support is top-notch and has helped me tremendously throughout my entire collegiate career. The athletics programs offer a lot of tutoring services and academic coaching. Beyond this, I also have a student-athlete advisor plus a separate advisor through Fox.

How will your student-athlete experience benefit you beyond your time at Temple?
I’ve gained a lot of confidence in my ability to be dedicated to my studies while navigating a rigorous athletic schedule—I think that will benefit me when it comes time to entering the professional workforce. Additionally, I have made many strong professional connections through being a Fox student-athlete that I look forward to utilizing in the future.
What would you say to a prospective student-athlete who is considering coming to Temple?
I would explain that being a student-athlete at Temple, particularly at Fox, offers you so many benefits and opportunities for you now and in the future. You have the chance here to gain a prestigious degree while playing sports at the highest level of collegiate athletics. Beyond that, Philadelphia is one of the biggest markets—particularly for sports—in the country!
What academic and athletic goals do you have for this year?
My personal goals for this year are very important to me. Academically, I am aiming to obtain a 3.5 GPA and get accepted into graduate school. Athletically, I want to become the best player in the country at my position.
