Name: Avi Lalani
Major: Accounting
Hometown: Toronto, ON
Internship: KPMG (Philadelphia)
For more than a year, Fox School of Business student Avi Lalani, class of 2026, knew what he wanted to do in the summer of 2025.
Or, as he puts it, what he wanted and hoped he could do.
“I applied well over a year in advance for an accounting internship with KPMG,” Lalani says.
“As one of the ‘Big Four’ accounting firms, KPMG internships are very sought after. I had done some previous work with a tax prep firm and was very motivated to expand my knowledge and career outlook going into my senior year, especially in the auditing side.”
“Everything I did at my internship definitely tied back to what I’ve been focusing on within my Fox School accounting education.”
Lalani’s planning has paid off. He returns to the Fox School this fall for the beginning of his senior year after spending the summer as an audit intern with KPMG in their Philadelphia offices.
Picking up key accounting skills within the field itself, Lalani’s internship tasks included drafting communication letters, preparing workpaper requests and enhancing audit readiness of clients’ files.
He’s most proud of the work he did with financial statement tie-outs, an audit process that ensures all amounts from a client’s financial statement match its original source.
“Tie-outs, depending on the client, can be very challenging, so I’m very happy to have that now as a learned-skilled I can apply once I join the industry professionally,” he says.

Lalani believes, though, that all the skills he acquired pair well with what he’s learning (and even what he hasn’t learned yet!) within the Fox School’s Alter Hall.
“Returning from my auditing internship, I am especially excited to now take my audit course this fall—a lot of people at my internship explained to me how things will click within the subject once I actually take the audit class,” Lalani says.
“Everything I did at my internship definitely tied back to what I’ve been focusing on within my Fox School accounting education.”
Even though he’s had a successful summer internship, Lalani remains highly motivated to continue pursuing opportunities that will help him carry out his goals.
“I feel very thankful to have had a chance to intern with KPMG—they are a large and very successful corporation and securing a return offer from them, one of the ‘Big Four’ firms, would be an amazing start to my career,” Lalani says.
“Regardless, I am grateful for the education and support network I’ve found at Fox that made it possible for me to pursue an experience like this, one that I believe will lead me to success beyond graduation.”
