Graduation spotlight: Khushi Patel enters the auditing field with confidence of success

Like most 17- and 18-year-olds, the leadup to college is a time filled with big decisions to make.

Name: Khushi Patel

Major: Accounting and management information systems

Hometown: South Williamsport, PA

Khushi Patel’s experience was no different.

“When the time came to decide what exactly I wanted to study and major in there were many things that interested me.

“I had thought about everything from graphic design to entering the medical field,” she said with a laugh.

However, a trusted source helped nudge her in what would prove to be the right direction.

“Growing up, I was very close to my grandfather, and he had a big impact on me—he viewed education as something that was very important,” Patel said.

“He always supported me and knew I had always been good at math, and I’ll never forget him saying to me ‘you know everyone will always need an accountant,’ so I decided to give accounting a try.”

Four years later, it’s confirmed that she made a great choice.

And then some.

This month, Patel will graduate from Temple University’s Fox School of Business, completing a student tenure headlined by academic success, personal growth and impressive professional development.

While she admits she first entered the Fox School a bit intimidated by the stature of the setting, professors helped her quickly gain confidence, especially as she excelled at the accounting curriculum.

Motivated by the success she found, the South Williamsport, PA, native decided to add a second major.

“The first semester of my sophomore year I was introduced to management information systems (MIS) through an introductory course and quickly became interested in the technical and problem-solving aspects of the subject,” Patel said.

“After speaking with faculty and advisors in the MIS department, I realized combining the major with accounting aligned really well with my interests in both business and technology.”

As she thrived in her academics, she also began to consider the shape of her early career trajectory. On top of getting involved within Temple’s Association of Information Systems (AIS) student professional organization (SPO), she diligently attended career fairs and networking events that were open to students.

This proved to be beneficial.

“Through attending on campus events and being involved in AIS, I was fortunate to get introduced and start a continuing dialogue with Grant Thornton, a major global firm that specializes in different kinds of auditing, tax and advisory services,” Patel said.

“I would always make a point to speak to their recruiters or individuals representing their company—to the point that they would begin to recognize me at events.

“It always stood out to me how kind they were and how much they were willing to offer their time and advice to me as an undergraduate college student.”

Patel utilized her connections for integral professional development. After completing an internship with Grant Thornton’s IT audit team in Philadelphia in summer 2025, she has accepted an offer to join the team in a full-time capacity starting in July 2026.

“IT auditing is really about evaluating a company’s systems and controls to make sure financial data is accurate, secure and functioning as expected,” Patel explained.

“I think a role like this is a great blend of the two majors I studied at Fox—a lot of elements from both accounting and MIS have overlap into the position I will be entering.”

Patel is quick to point out that not all of her valuable Fox education was gained in class. She cites her participation within the Global Immersion Program to be highly influential.

“One of my favorite experiences was participating in the Global Immersion Program in Paris and Luxembourg,” Patel said.

“The immersion gave me the opportunity to explore new cities, visit places like the Louvre and experience the culture through local cafes and shops. What made it especially meaningful was learning how international companies operate, which helped me connect classroom concepts to real world business practices on a global scale.”

As she prepares to close her chapter as a Fox student, she knows the experience will always be a part of her.

“My time as a student at Fox and the education I gained here is something that I am very proud to take with me,” Patel said.

“Above all, Fox made me more confident in myself and in my professional abilities—and I will always be thankful for that.”
