As a finance student at Temple University’s Fox School of Business, Aadi Patil, Class of 2027, learned early on the importance of your senior year summer internship.
That’s why, as a highly motivated student, he began planning for summer 2026 since the start of his sophomore year.
Now, it’s safe to say his diligence paid off.
Patil returns to begin his senior year at the Fox School this fall after spending the summer as an investment banking analyst with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) in New York. A renowned, global financial institution, MUFG, headquartered in Tokyo, provides large-scale commercial and trust banking and investment services.
For Patil, this opportunity was positively impactful, for a myriad of reasons.
“My internship at MUFG was fantastic, and one that I believe will not only shape the rest of my time as a finance student at Fox, but my entire professional career within the banking industry,” Patil said.
“Not only did I learn so much through everyday conversations and observations with established professionals at the company, but the hands-on experiences of being directly involved in deals definitely helped accelerate my understanding of the industry—being trusted to contribute to live transactions made the experience both challenging and rewarding.”
Patil’s time at MUFG saw him specifically work with their sponsor finance and direct lending group, as he was assigned as a summer analyst for that division. Always drawn to investment banking as a career, he said the internship offered him a real-world glimpse into theprofession unlike anything before.
“Investment banking has always been appealing to me, and it was incredible to see the real-life, day in day out of what a career in it entails,” Patil said.
“You operate in executing vast, important deals, and so it places you right at the center of important decision making and value creation.”
While his internship placed him within a new environment, Patil was fortunate the work itself was not too foreign thanks to experiences at the Fox School. On top of his classroom financial education, his extracurricular involvement as chief investment officer of the William C. Dunkelberg Owl Fund, a student-run equity investment fund that manages a portion of Temple University’s endowment, positioned him well-equipped for his real-world experience.
“Between my time in class or high involvement with the Owl Fund, I felt that there were many elements to pull from my experiences as a Fox School student that were applicable to what I accomplished during my summer analyst role,” Patil said.
“I could successfully apply concepts like modeling, valuation and analysis into practice at MUFG directly through experiences I’ve had with those subjects during my time in the Owl Fund.”
Overall, Patil is grateful for his experience and knows it will prove beneficial as he considers his professional future.
“This experience gave me a clear understanding of what it takes to succeed within the financial/banking industry, and I’m thankful for that, and feeling that it’s prepared me to hit the ground running when I step into a full-time role beyond my graduation from Fox,” Patil said.
“I strongly recommend future Fox students not only pursue an internship but be intentional about their pursuits. To me, an internship is the best way to bridge the gap between what you learn in the classroom and real-world application.”
