Major showcase: Accounting
Professor Wayne Williams connects accounting as the “language of business” to the growing importance of digital financial literacy. He explores the rise of third-party payment platforms such as PayPal, Zelle and digital wallets, highlighting both their convenience and their risks. By examining common scams like phishing and smishing, he shares practical safeguards including verifying contacts, enabling multi-factor authentication and monitoring accounts regularly. The session underscores that modern financial literacy requires understanding both numbers and technology.
The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting program at Temple University’s Fox School of Business builds a strong foundation in accounting theory while developing the analytical, technological and decision-making skills needed in today’s digital economy. Through coursework in financial accounting, auditing, taxation, cost analysis and accounting information systems, students learn to evaluate financial data, apply data analytics and support ethical, strategic decision making in a global business environment.
Major showcase: Economics
In his lecture on the “economics of celebrity,” professor Josh Mask demonstrates how economic principles apply to real-world markets. He explains how celebrities like Lionel Messi and Taylor Swift, as well as TikTok influencers, shift demand and raise the fundamental value of tickets, merchandise and endorsed products. Using supply and demand, he details the difference between the price we see and the price a product should command in competitive equilibrium. The session highlights how economic analysis helps us understand pricing, consumer behavior and the powerful role influence plays in shaping markets.
Economics is the study of how we allocate limited resources among alternative uses to satisfy our wants. Because nearly every public and personal issue has economic components, the economic way of thinking helps us make sense of the complex world around us. The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Economics program, offered jointly by Temple University’s Fox School of Business and the College of Liberal Arts, provides a strong analytical and quantitative foundation through coursework in microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics, international economics and public policy. This program prepares students for careers in business, government and the private sector, as well as advanced study in law, business, public administration and the health sciences.
Major showcase: Management Information Systems
Professor Amy Lavin explains how Canva can be used to create clear, compelling data visualizations. She emphasizes starting with a clear question, understanding your data, knowing your audience and maintaining simplicity and graphic integrity. By customizing templates, editing charts and importing data, Canva allows users to turn insights into engaging visual stories.
Professor Steven Sclarow introduces the fundamentals of UX design and personal branding through a structured, five-step process: understanding the problem, researching the user, analyzing ideas, designing solutions, and launching with testing. Emphasis is placed on clearly defining your audience, curating your personal story, and maintaining control over your digital identity. By using techniques like brainstorming, prototyping, and usability testing, individuals can create effective, user-centered websites that communicate their brand clearly and professionally.
These skills connect directly to the Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems (MIS) program at Temple University’s Fox School of Business. The MIS program prepares future digital leaders to design and manage technology-driven business solutions. Students develop expertise in cloud computing, cybersecurity, UX design, web and API development, and data analytics. At the intersection of business and technology, MIS graduates are equipped to build and secure systems that power e-commerce, financial platforms, and enterprise tools in today’s digital economy.
Major showcase: Statistical Science and Data Analytics
Professor Lauren Burns explains the statistics behind sports betting, covering payout odds, moneyline bets and betting against the spread. She shows how sportsbooks use statistical models and public behavior data to balance bets and ensure profit. While learning about how the gambling industry connects to statistics can be part of a business education, she notes that individuals find limited success in “beating the odds.”
These concepts connect to the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Statistical Science and Data Analytics program offered by Temple University’s Fox School of Business. The program builds strong foundations in statistical methods, data analysis and computation, while incorporating business coursework. Students gain experience with tools like R, Python, SQL and SAS and complete an industry-focused capstone project. Graduates are prepared to apply data-driven decision-making skills across business, healthcare, government, sports and other data-intensive fields.

These professionals price insurance, forecast retirement and healthcare costs, model disasters and support decision-making across industries including insurance, finance, healthcare, government, tech and sports analytics. The field offers strong job security, competitive salaries and clear advancement through a professional exam pathway.
