Group will lead the charge in ensuring that DEI efforts are at core of schools’ mission
PHILADELPHIA, February 7, 2022 — In our ongoing efforts to deepen our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, the Fox School and School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) launched a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Council in October 2020. The council will lead, advocate for, coordinate, inform and ensure DEI efforts are a larger part of the schools’ culture, operations and practices.
The council is chaired by Patricia Terry. Terry is the assistant director of curriculum management and assessment. A proud Temple alum, Terry received the school’s 2021 Rising Star award and hopes to continue to be a change agent focused on improving the experiences of all members of the school community.
Faculty members from both schools serve on the council. For example, Leora Eisenstadt of the Department of Legal Studies is also the director of the new Center for Ethics, Diversity and Workplace Culture (CEDWC). From STHM, associate professor in STHM and director of Organizational Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Debra Blair’s industry experience spans over 25 years designing and implementing inclusive sport, tourism and leisure programs and events.
“The DEI Council will lead the charge in shifting the culture and will advocate for and lead initiatives that ensure DEI values fully connect into every aspect of our schools,” says Dean Ron Anderson. “Positive change does not come overnight. But I am confident that with the new council, we can bring real, tangible change to both schools.”
Prior to her passing in November 2020, Lisa Fitch, former senior associate director of PhD Programs at the Fox School of Business, served on the council and was appointed by Ron Andersons, dean of the Fox School and STHM.
